Hedge cutting across Harrogate & Yorkshire

We cut hedges of all sizes and species across Harrogate, Knaresborough, Leeds, York and the wider Yorkshire area. Whether it's a formal beech boundary on a large estate, a front-garden privet or a long laurel screen running down a commercial property — we have the equipment, the technique and the eye for a straight line to get it right.

A well-maintained hedge does a lot for a property. It defines boundaries, adds structure, improves privacy and — when it's cut properly — signals immediately that this is a property that's looked after. We take that seriously.

What we know about the common species

Beech

One of the most satisfying hedges to cut when it's done right. We work with large beech boundaries on estates and residential properties across Harrogate. Flat top, clean sides, crisp corners. Cut in late summer after the first flush of growth has hardened, it holds its shape through winter and looks exceptional. We use string lines on longer runs — no guessing.

Laurel

Laurel is everywhere in Yorkshire and it grows fast. The mistake most people make is using the wrong blades — a trimmer with oscillating blades shreds the large leaves and leaves brown edges for months. We use secateurs or loppers for clean cuts on formal hedges, timed properly so the cuts heal before cold weather.

Laurel hedge after cutting — Harrogate

Laurel hedge after cutting. The clean face comes from working methodically with sharp equipment at the right time of year.

Conifer

Conifers need careful handling — cut into old wood and they won't regenerate. We know where green growth ends and brown begins and work to that line every time. Clean faces, level top, no brown patches.

Large & commercial hedges

Long boundary hedges, commercial premises and managed estates — we have the reach, equipment and experience to handle large-scale cutting efficiently. We work to agreed schedules and leave sites clean.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a quote for hedge cutting? +
The quickest way is to WhatsApp a couple of photos of the hedge to 07497 537 327 — we can price most jobs from photos without a site visit, and we'll usually come back to you the same day. Alternatively, call us directly or use the quote form on this site.
What's the best time of year to cut a hedge? +
It depends on the species, but for most hedges in Yorkshire the main cut is late summer — late August to mid-September. This gives the plant time to push a small amount of new growth before winter, sealing the cuts. Some hedges benefit from a lighter second trim in spring. We'll advise on what's right for your specific hedge when you get in touch.
Do you cut large or estate hedges? +
Yes — large boundary hedges, estate hedges and commercial runs are some of the work we're most experienced in. We have the equipment and access tools to work at height safely and efficiently. Long beech and laurel boundaries are a particular strength.
Do you remove the cuttings? +
Yes, always. All cuttings are cleared and removed as part of the job. We leave the site clean on completion — no bags left on the pavement, no clippings on neighbouring plants.
Do you cover my area? +
We're based in Harrogate and work across North and West Yorkshire — Knaresborough, Ripon, Leeds, York, Wetherby, Ilkley, Skipton and surrounding areas. If you're unsure, just ask — we'll tell you directly.
Can you do a one-off cut or do I need a contract? +
Both. We do plenty of one-off hedge cuts for people who just need it done once. We also offer scheduled seasonal visits for clients who want their hedges managed properly year-round. No long-term contracts required.
