The existing patio had settled unevenly and the edges had failed completely. Rather than a cosmetic fix, we lifted the whole area, prepared the base properly, re-laid the original sandstone slabs level and finished it with new slate edging detail and fresh pointing throughout.
Before: Uneven Surface & Failed Edging
The patio had dropped in places and the perimeter had lost its definition entirely. Jobs like this often look like they just need a clean — in reality the base preparation is where the work is, and skipping it means the same problems come back within a season.
New Slate Edging Detail
New slate sett edging was bedded in on a fresh mortar haunch around the full perimeter. The contrast between the warm sandstone and the dark slate is deliberate — it frames the patio and gives it a finished edge that will hold its shape.

Finished Result
The finished patio sits level, drains correctly and has a clean defined edge. Under the glazed canopy it becomes a genuinely usable outdoor room — which was the point of the original patio, just never quite achieved until now.
